Voz De Mando haven’t fully abandoned the crowd-pleasing bounce of 2017’s subtly political Clase de Historia. Despite being largely built from softly lilting accordion (“Creiste”) and gently strummed guitar (“Dios Te Bendiga”), the new El Que a Ti Te Gusta still finds room for the band’s patented moments of joyful abandon (“Caldito de Águila”). But this surprisingly gentle set might also be the most nakedly emotional entry in the socially conscious norteño quintet’s catalog, exposing a tenderness that’s as unexpected as it is captivating.
